The Groove Kitchen and Music Room - In The Groove
AUGUST 2008

Hello everyone and welcome to the 8th edition of “In The Groove”, the Groove Kitchen & Music Rooms monthly newsletter. In the spirit of the old saying, “time flies when you're having fun”, it seems like time has boarded a 747 and the fun doesn’t seem to stop. It feels like only yesterday that I was writing last month’s newsletter. I sincerely hope that everyone has been enjoying their summer as much as we have. The parade of new faces that continue to visit our establishment has been impressive and greatly appreciated. The continued interest in our website and the growing number of subscribers to this newsletter has solidified my assumptions that Cambridge has been waiting for something different in the restaurant / entertainment category. In our fast paced lives there is still a definite need for rest, relaxation and the occasional social gathering. Our intention at The Groove Kitchen is to serve up exactly that with a side of entertainment, topped with a healthy portion of art.

July was jam packed with fun, excitement and the flavors of summer. We hit the ground running with our Canada Day BBQ at Riverside Park. Thanks to all of those who stopped by for a burger and refreshment. The Groove Kitchen’s Friday night house band, Matt Storch & The Usual Suspects kicked off our month with a performance at the same event that I continue to talk about today. Nothing beats an outdoor show where there is a great built in crowd groovin’ all over the place. Local steel drum band “Pan Waves” contributed to our summer kick off with an afternoon on the Groove Kitchen patio. Check out this video on our Facebook page. Cuban musician, Eduardo Machado, also supplied some fun summertime tunes for a Wednesday night dinner crowd on a beautiful summer evening.

July was also a successful month for fundraising. Here at The Groove Kitchen we all get a lot of satisfaction out of knowing that our efforts can make a difference to people and causes in need of our support. We were host to a couple of private parties for that exact purpose and the mission was accomplished. Please keep us in mind for your next function. Whether it be a fundraising event, wedding reception, birthday party, etc. It is something that we enjoy doing and do it well. A cocktail party complete with food, entertainment and some of your closest friends can be a great way to celebrate. Enough about the past. Let’s have a look at what August has in store.

Cheers,

Matt Storch

Special Announcement

All of us cats at The Groove Kitchen will be on vacation and the restaurant will be closed from Monday, August the 4th to Thursday, August the 7th. We will be re-open for business on Friday, August 8th. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Pre-Vacation Rockabilly Party!

Hey everyone ! Put on your dancing shoes, grease your hair back and get ready for a rockin’, rockabilly party with Alistair Christl and The Swingin’ Chandeliers !

This band rocks and I personally can’t wait to unwind and twist the night away.

Compared to Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams, and even Jello Biafra, Alistair Christl is a powerhouse roots/country/rockabilly guitar slinger the likes of which you ain’t ever seen. Fingerpicking Chet Atkins style licks on a ’63 Gibson Hollowbody and cranking out 50’s hillbilly inspired vocals, Alistair’s music is a lightning-paced salute to all things vigorous and genuine in music. With Rachel Melas (Bass) and Conny Nowe (drums) of much-admired Cajun act, Swamparella, and Rob Fenton on pedal Steel and fiddle, Alistair Christl and his Swingin’ Chandeliers are not to be missed. Check out their web site at: www.AlistairChristl.com

See you then ! This time I’ll be on the good side of the chicken wire !
