JULY 2008
|
Hello and welcome to the 7th edition of “In The Groove”, The Groove Kitchen & Music Rooms monthly newsletter. The early part of July has
been more than a little busy. To celebrate Canada Day, we set up shop at Riverside Park in Cambridge. The Groove Kitchen staff and a few
gracious volunteers helped us serve over 500 hamburgers, 300 hot dogs and a river of refreshments to many of the locals that attended this
very successful event. The Groove’s house band, Matt Storch & The Usual Suspects took the stage around 8:00pm and rocked out to a
groovin’ crowd. The next day one of our saxophone players, Joe Dublanski graced the cover of The Cambridge Times.
By expanding our hours to include Tuesday evenings and by adding entertainment to our Wednesday night schedule we have never been busier.
Very quickly The Groove is developing a reputation as one of the best restaurants in the tri-city area. Chef John Wellwood has continued his
tradition of preparing fabulous
"made to order" dishes, while our entertainment
schedule has solidified our motto “The Art Of Food And Entertainment”.
The remainder of July is as exciting as always. Please read on to see what interests you and join the rapidly growing group of patrons that
have been walking, cycling, riding and responsibly driving down to The Groove Kitchen & Music Room.
Thank you.

The Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Tour '08 - Sat. July 12!
Katie B, former lead singer of the widely successful industrial rock band, Jakalope, has ventured out on her own. Now known as Katie Rox, she is embarking on her highly anticipated Canadian tour in support of her debut, self-produced solo album High Standards, released this January.
'Lyrically and vocally, Rox is an artist who could stand alone with a guitar on stage and silence an entire audience with a single note from her throat' (Lethbridge Times Herald). And that is exactly what she has been doing. Her songwriting has grown more personal, her liveshows more intimate, altogether a glimpse into a woman who went digging for her soul and found her roots.
The tour appropriately started off in Alberta, where she was born and raised, and moves East in July. She'll be making her way around Ontario, as well as the Maritimes. Hitting the road with Katie will be her long time friend and songwriter Lesley Pike for The Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Tour.
Katie's Toronto-based tour mate Lesley Pike has been noted in the press as one who is sparkling with musicality, and the type of artist who can translate half a minute of life experience into a profound musical statement (Saskatoon Star Phoenix). Her debut self-produced album 'Night Visons' garnered critical acclaim from press outlets across the country, along with heavy play on the CBC. A couple of years
and countless shows later Lesley presents her new album 'Blink', a stunning collection of 11 original songs, featuring Lesley on vocals, piano and guitar alongside a host of top-notch Canadian Musicians.

Don't miss Mo' Kauffey - July 17th
In the five years since Mo' Kauffey became the stage name for Gary Wickizer he has gone from someone known by few to a widely known, much respected, and loved artist throughout Colorado, Florida, Southern Ontario, Michigan, and points in between. He has released five full CDs during that time. He has polished his persona into a highly entertaining show, with a laid-back smooth style, full of humor whether performing solo or joined by any number of sidemen he has attracted. He performs anywhere from coffeehouses to festivals, stating, "I like the intimate crowds, but love the energy of a larger crowd!".

The Artists' Wall welcomes Ean Kools
I grew up in Cambridge and have always been interested in art. After deciding to attend Seneca College for graphic design while living in Toronto I found I really liked graffiti. After meeting a lot of people that did graffiti I started doing it myself. Sketching up new tags became a daily ritual for me. After I lost a few at the train yard and my friends were getting arrested I decided to dedicate myself to canvas and spend my life making graffiti an accepted art and allow it to be legal...
