FEBRUARY 2008
Welcome to the second edition of “In The Groove”, the Groove Kitchen & Music Rooms monthly newsletter. For what was supposed to be a quite month for restaurants and retail outlets everywhere, January was one of our busiest months ever. With highlights such as the Zorba dinner show (scheduled again Wednesday, March 12), Douglas Watson co-hosting one our busiest open mic nights (catch the Douglas Watson R&B Revue Saturday, February 16th), The Ralgreens played to a full house and sold us out of beer (great job guys), and as usual Mo’ Kauffey and Max Bent brought on the blues like only they can do. However, our greatest success came from the kitchen. With the addition of our Pasta night on Wednesdays and the fact that we had a fully reserved dining room for many Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings people from Kitchener, Guelph and of course our local supporters made for a fantastic month full of new faces and flavors. Thank you!

Owner Matt Storch Takes The Plunge!
With all things moving in a positive direction and considering how much enjoyment and satisfaction I have been getting through being involved in this business I have decided to resign from my career in sales. Over the past ten plus years in the woodworking business I have had the opportunity to travel to many places in the world while my daily travels have taken me many points throughout Ontario and Quebec, all the while I have met many great people and developed some life long friendships. However, I have never been more excited about the future and what is in store for me at The Groove Kitchen. I look forward to my new responsibilities as owner, operator and chief bottle washer In The Groove! See you there!

What’s Hot In The Kitchen
Chef John Wellwood has got some great dishes prepared for our featured Valentines Weekend Menu. Here is one of my favorites.
Almond Chicken with Strawberry Peppercorn Sauce
Ingredients:
- 2 boneless, skinless, chicken breasts
- ¼ cup chicken stock
- ¼ cup almond slivers
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg white beaten
- ½ cup frozen strawberries
- 1 tbls coarse sugar
- 1 tsp crushed peppercorn
- ½ tsp red wine vinegar
- ½ tsp cornstarch
- Pinch of salt
Directions:
- Brush tops of chicken with egg whites
- Press the almond and bread crumb mixture onto the chicken
- Place chicken stock and chicken into baking pan and bake for 30 min at 350 deg.
- Combine strawberries, sugar, red wine vinegar, salt, peppercorns and cornstarch in saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 mins.
Plating:
To serve, spoon half the sauce on two plates. Place mashed potatoes in center of plate and veggies around the top half.
Lay chicken breast on plate overlapping potatoes and drizzle remaining sauce over the chicken for a beautiful presentation and an extremely fresh, flavorful dish!

Got the blues? So does Douglas Watson, and that's not a bad thing.
By Stephanie D.
On February 16th, The Groove Kitchen and music room will be graced by the presence of the legendary Douglas Watson, a Chicago born and bred blues visionary.
A resident of Canada since 1989, Mr. Watson began his musical journey as a bass player with a flair for funk, and soon, he discovered his impressive vocal chops and developed his skills as a singer.
An important fixture in the world of rythm and blues, Douglas played with the likes of music giants John Lee Hooker and B.B. King, among countless other influential artists.
He currently has digs in Kitchener, and his latest musical endeavor is with the band The Rythm and Blues Revue Kings, who, with Douglas fronting, bang out originals as well as covers by such talent as Otis redding and Marvin Gaye.
Since releasing their debut album, Voodoo Healin', and winning a prestigious talent search, the band has begun work on their sophomore release.
February 16th promises to be an evening filled with plenty of soul, motown, and blues, and we hope to see you all there.
Watch for my interview with Douglas Watson in our March issue.
